Patagonia & Magallanes!!

We were here for about a week total and it was amazing. The vibe was a lot more “chill” than Santiago, but still very enjoyable and much more relaxing! We found a cafe that we really enjoyed, as well as the La Luna restaurant, which I visited three times!

After an academic session at UMAG, some students came with us to the mall and had lunch with us! We walked around with them for a bit and got to know each other better.

Here are some pics!

Vulnerability: Population’s Footprint vs. Immediate Vulnerability

A population's vulnerability due to their carbon footprint can vary drastically from their immediate vulnerability. This contrast depends largely on the population’s environmental conditions and weather patterns, while having a rural or marginalized community can also play a large role in whether or not it is more vulnerable. In Chile, for example, there is a lower carbon footprint, but some locations, such as in Coquindo, the location itself presents itself as more vulnerable.

Polar Plunge Pt. 2 (I actually did it this time)

The water was way too cold but it was still so so worth it. It was also my first time going into the Pacific Ocean :)

Climate Adaptation: South Jersey vs. Coquimbo

South Jersey, for example, is strong in agriculture, including blueberries and tomatoes. Farmers have improved drainage systems that help adapt to varying rainfall and increasing temperatures. The Coquimbo Region in Chile deals with drought and water scarcity. Farmers use small reservoirs and drip irrigation to adapt. The difference between these two areas is that South Jersey has more federal support and the ability to use more technologically advanced tools with that funding, while the Coquimbo region implemented their methods with fewer resources and is also managed much more locally.
